Haslingfield Quarry (or clunch pit) is one of only two sites recorded by the Wildlife Trust in the three counties of Beds, Northants and Cambs which are home to the rare Man Orchid. This relatively undisturbed chalk grassland, a County Wildlife Site, also boasts Bee Orchids, Twayblades, Common Spotted Orchids and Pyramidal Orchids, as well as many other native wildflowers. This walk and talk by Parish Councillor Clive Blower, organised by the Haslingfield and Harlton Eco Group, includes historical information about the Quarry and nearby cottages and an optional climb to the top of Money Hill, with 360 degree panoramic views across the south of the county and north to the spires of Cambridge. Easy walk to the Quarry from the bottom of Quarry Lane, off Back Lane/School Lane. The walk to the top of Money Hill is moderately steep and can be slippery when wet. Nettles and brambles are common - wear sturdy shoes and long trousers. BYO drinks/sunhats. Meet at 2 pm sharp at the bottom of Quarry Lane. Questions to hnheco@gmail.com.
