Nature, Imagination and Technology - a Cambridge Science Festival workshop for young people

  • Cambridge University Press Bookshop CB2 1SZ (map)

Fancy tapping into your left and right hemispheres to see science creatively? Hosted by Cambridge University Press Bookshop and led by Pivotal member and poet Jane Monson, this creative writing workshop will draw on science, language and art to explore climate change.

The focus of this group workshop will be pressing and relevant topics within climate change, not only observing the debates around nature and technology, but the language that we use, lose, and change from both worlds. The workshop will involve a discussion of “indoor” and “outdoor” words, natural and technological vocabulary, and how (as well as how often) we find ourselves using them.

Key questions we will address through creative writing exercises are: have we lost touch with words from the natural kingdom, while gaining language via technology? What will the impact on the environment be if we lose nature and its relevant language, not only on a scientific level, but also a creative one?

Aimed at young people from 11 to 18 years, this will be a fun and inspiring way to merge our left and right (or write!) brains.
